June 6, 2024, Manila, Philippines - UNIQLO Philippines has teamed up with ABS-CBN Foundation (AFI), bringing to life the Citizen Science Program 2024 that aims to contribute to a sustainable future for the people and the planet.
The exciting partnership underscores UNIQLO’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact and highlighting the importance of caring for the environment and society. AFI’s Citizen Science Program is an initiative of its environment preservation arm, Bantay Kalikasan, designed to empower communities through collaboration between residents and scientists.
UNIQLO and AFI’s tie-up, which started in May 2024, engages communities in Mabini, Batangas to participate in various initiatives to protect the sea’s natural resources, together with the help of AFI’s network of scientists. Through the Citizen Science program, members of the communities will be trained to monitor coral reefs and marine protected areas. The program will also develop a Natural Resources Management plan that can easily be implemented by the community, along with a system for household waste management and livelihood opportunities for the people therein.
UNIQLO and AFI formalized the partnership in a Memorandum of Agreement contract signing at UNIQLO Global Flagship Store in Glorietta 5 on May 30. Present during the event were ABS-CBN Foundation Managing Director Roberta L. Lopez-Feliciano, ABS-CBN Foundation Bantay Kalikasan Program OIC Sarah A. Agcaoili, UNIQLO Philippines Chief Operating Officer Ms. Geraldine Sia.
“This partnership with ABS-CBN Foundation reaffirms UNIQLO’s commitment to harnessing the Power of Clothing to contribute to the preservation of the environment for the generations to come. Through the Citizen Science program, we can equip communities not just with the knowledge and capacity to help preserve the environment, but also provide opportunities that can help them with their livelihoods,” said UNIQLO Chief Operating Officer Geraldine Sia during the Contract Signing.
